Technical details for cultivation

The pH of the soil or of the growing substratum must not exceed 5.5, moreover it must be loose to allow a good drainage of the excessive water and a good aeration of the roots. The main disease of the rhododendron is the phytophtora root  rot that makes the plants die, the physical conditions of hte soil or substratum, a steady and moderate watering and a correct feeding plan, are essential to control pests and diseases.
If the soil or the growing substratum have not the stated features, it is important to condition the soil with a lot of acid fair peat. Do not use too many fertilisers, above all, the soluble ones to prevent the salinity level, wich in some cases may become very dangerous from increasing. When soils are not very acid, it is useful to provide iron and other microelements.
